Free Pattern: Popcorn Puff Square

Popcorn Puff Square

Yarns used: Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn!” 4-ply medium worsted & Red Heart Super Saver 4-ply worsted medium

Hook Size: I / 9 - 5.50 MM
Skill level: Advanced Beginner
Size: 4" x 4" square OR 6” x 6” square

Special Stitches:
Popcorn Stitch (pop)
Crossed Double (crossed dc)

You may change colors each round or maintain a uniform color throughout.

Start with magic loop.

ROUND 1: (ch 3, 4 dc in loop) - first popcorn stitch, ch 3, (pop, ch 3) x 7, sl st to top of first pop. (8 pop, 8 ch-3 spaces)

ROUND 2: sl st in ch-3 space, (ch 3, 4 dc in loop) - first popcorn stitch, ch 3, (pop, ch 3) in same chain space, (pop, ch 3) x 2 in each chain space around, sl st in top of first pop. (16 pop, 16 ch-3 spaces). Tie off.

ROUND 3: Flip work over so back side faces you. Work sc in base of 2 pop from round 2 (see picture), ch 4, skip 2 pop, work sc in base of 2 pop, ch 4, skip 2 pop, work sc in base of 2 pop, ch 4, skip 2 pop, work sc in base of 2 pop, ch 4, sl st in first sc.



ROUND 4: Flip work so right side faces you. Sl st in chain space. Ch 3, 5 dc, ch 2, ((6 dc, ch 2) in next ch space) x 3, sl st to top of first ch-3.

ROUND 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, continue around. Sl st in top of ch-3. Tie off.


STOP HERE FOR 4" SQUARE.

ROUND 6: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, sk next dc, dc in next dc, dc in skipped dc (crossed dc made), work crossed dcs across, repeat around, sl st to first dc.

ROUND 7: Sl st in next dc and in corner chain space; repeat round 5. Finish off.
