128/365 Lady's Rose

by Melinda Miller
completed 16October2012

This one worked up very quickly. I am not a huge fan of the Herrschner's yarn, and working with the black makes it even more tedious and tiresome. owever, I'm determined to work my way through it, if for no other reason than I just don't want to buy more yarn unless I need to at this point. Still, it's pretty, right? (=

125/365 Spider in the Barn

by Sally Ives
completed today

I made modifications to the last round on this one, but overall, it was a nice easy square. It was supposed to be 6", but it worked up to 7", even with the Herrschner's. I'm at a loss.

This worked up to 11", but I think it's because the Herrschner's yarn is so much thinner than the other worsteds.

123/365 Simple 10-Petal Afghan Square

by Joyce Lewis
completed 11July2012

I'm actually just guessing on the completion date on this one, as I just found it the other day still tucked in the project box in which I store the yarn for Cassidy's squares. Still, I believe I'm fairly close. In order to get the color changes just right, I had to pick through the pattern, using the photo for reference. Worked out in the end. (=

It's supposed to work up to 9" with an H-hook, but I only got to 8" with my I-hook.

I really liked how Julie's square (posted 2 days ago) started out, so I decided to make a 6-inch square out of it. I didn't actually write out the pattern for it, just kind of improvised. However, I will get it written out for you; I promise. (=

What I *HAVE* Accomplished

While I haven't been diligently putting out squares, I did start on a project for myself in July in conjunction with the Ravellenic Games.  It's Erykah by Vickie Howell  It's a little more of a challenge than I usually give myself, but that was kind of the idea.  Here's what I have completed so far:

This is the back piece of the sweater.

These are the front pieces.

This is the first of the two sleeves.

I am currently working on the other sleeve. Once it's done, I'll work up the hood and then begin piecing it all together. I'm playing with the idea of adding pockets, but we'll see. Once I finish the sweater, I'll be back to making squares again. I just feel like I have to see this through first.

Heartfelt Apology

To all my faithful readers, I want to offer my sincerest apology for having left you hanging. It's been over 6 months since my last post, and you all deserve better than that. I'm truly sorry.

My life, as I knew it, turned completely upside-down in March of this year, and I have been working diligently to try to hold as much of it together as I was able. That hasn't been easy; however, with the assistance of some truly wonderful people and by the grace of God, I've managed to get to the point where I feel like I'm getting to the other side. Make no mistake, my circumstances haven't really changed from what they were 6 months ago. I'm just praying more, which has led to my feeling much more like myself.

I am woefully far behind on my goal to work a granny square each day for a full year. I've picked up my hook only on a few occasions since "my life got flipped, turned upside-down" (many thanks, there, Mr. Smith). I'd like to say that this will mark the beginning of part two on my square-a-day journey, but I honestly don't know that I'll be able to tackle it that methodically. So, for now, just know that I'm still breathing and that I intend to start posting again soon. It just may be a bit more sporadic than I'd originally planned.

Thanks you all for your support and understanding.

~Ruth

101-106/365 Bernat CAL Clue #2

by Bernat

I finished Clue 2 for my blueberry afghan. I really like this motif. I've seen others done in multiple colors, but I am trying to stick to the spirit of the CAL as much as possible (without actually using Bernat yarns, of course). So mine are done per the instructions, with 2 in my main color and 4 in color A. The third and fourth clues have been released already. I'll get on those after I do clue 2 for my artichoke afghan. Collage #1

(1) Highland Rose, (2) Antique Pearls, (3) Yarn Clouds, (4) 16 Circles, (5) Square 19 of 99, (6) Pretty Petals, (7) Spring Fling, (8) Esther's Square, (9) Multi-Color Flower, (10) Circle of Friends, (11) Flower Square, (12) Love & Honor, (13) Morning Glory

This was the first afghan I decided I would do when I began this journey, as I am the only person in my home for whom I have not yet made an afghan. Everyone else has at least one. So, this is just for me. The patterns that jump out at me due to their amazing textures or due to the results I've seen from other people's color changes go into this one. This is the one that will *pop* for me. I'm loving it so far. (=

100 Squares!

So, if you were paying attention, you saw that my last post included my 100th square. (= That means it's time for me to post some collages. Since I'm basically ahead right now (through next Friday - wow!), I'll post one afghan-based collage (based on the unanimous vote in the comments from a previous post) a day. Be on the lookout!

089-100/365 Bernat CAL Clue #1

by Bernat

I had some difficulty deciding on my colors for this afghan, so I whittled them down to two and decided to do both.

A Question for My Readers

As you know, I'm nearing the 100-square mark in my journey. I've seen on other blogs where they've done collages of the previous 25 square at the 25-, 50-, 75-, etc. I've also seen collages done by type of square, by the afghan for which the squares were made, ...

So, tell me. Is this something you'd like to see? If so, do you have any preference as to how the groupings are made up?

I purposely cheated and worked ahead a bit (see last post), so my squares are done through Sunday. I'll be going away with friends over the weekend. Hopefully that will give you all time to think it over and decide what you'd like to see. (; As they used to say on "Coffee Talk" (old "Saturday Night Live" skit with Mike Myers), "Talk amongst yourselves!" (=

077-088/365 - Bernat CAL Clue #1

by Bernat

Yes, I joined another mystery CAL. There are no photos with the patterns, but each one is charted. SO you have a basic idea of what the finished motif will look like. Also, it's very scripted. You're told to choose 1 main color, 3 coordinating contrast colors, and 1 contrasting color from a different color family. Then you're told exactly how many of each motif to work and in what colors.

This is my color inspiration for this afghan:

I absolutely adore the Design Seeds web site! So many cool color combinations. I can get lost just perusing the pictures.
