062/365 - Snowfall II

Snowfall by Aurora Suominen

I worked this using modifications by Scraplyn (on Ravelry), and I quote:

I changed all TR to DC, DC to HDC, and HDC to SC. I left the SC alone. In round 5 I changed the CH6 to CH4.

I did find that the square would not lay flat for me, but the first one didn't either. Same pattern of pucker, just on a smaller scale. Perhaps it'll straighten out when it's attached to other squares. We'll see.

Remember this one? I decided I liked it so much that I wanted to do it in another color variation. I may do a couple for Cassidy while I'm at it. It's such a cute square and works up so quickly.

058/365 - Starburst Circle

by Donna Mason-Svara

This pattern was actually for a coaster, but I thought it might make a nice center for a square. Turns out I was right. (; I even think that this one is pretty on both sides. Here's the back:

056/365 - Pretty Petals

by Melinda Miller

I decided to try this one as a 6" instead of 12" this time. I really like how it worked out. If you'd like to duplicate this result, I worked rounds 1-4 as stated. Then I worked a round of sc, with (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in each corner.

055/365 - Square 83 of 101

by Jean Leinhauser

When I saw this in the book, I fell in love and wanted to do it immediately, but when I actually did it? Not so much. I wish I'd started with a yellow center and then done the petals in white and red (alternating). Instead, I followed the instructions and used the same color for the whole flower. I hated it. So, working from the back, I worked 2 dc yellow between each white dc and tied off. Then, I worked sl st in red around the petals on each round.

I'm still not in love, but it's better than it was. Truth be told, this one will likely be added to Paisley's blankie.

054/365 - Flower Square

by Beata Basik

I absolutely adored how this flower worked up, and I'll likely put it to use again. That said, I could not get the background of this square to work according to the pattern instructions. So, I just made it up. (; Love! <3 If you should happen to work this one and can figure out the pattern from Round 5 on, please let me know how to do it correctly!

052/365 - New Year's Eve

by Sherry Welch

I modified the final round by doing sc instead of hdc, working two decreases, and doing (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) in each corner. Also, as noted below, I worked this one with an H-hook instead of an I, because most of the notes from those who worked this one before mentioned that it worked up larger than 12" otherwise. As it turns out, I just barely kept it at 12" by using sc in the final round.

051/365 - Squaring the Big Circle

by Kate Jenks

I ran out of Navy, so this became a two-color square out of necessity. Fortunately, Joann's has plenty more online (in addition to a couple others that look a little skimpy). (;

I added a round of trebles to make it 12" (was 10" at pattern completion). I could see making this one over and over again.

Joining Squares

So, there are a few joining methods floating around out there, and each has its merits. I decided today that I would test one that looked cool to me (and that I'd read good things about on Ravelry). It's the Flat Braid Joining Technique by Priscilla Hewitt. I had some squares which hadn't turned out quite as I'd have liked (previously labeled as being for Cassidy, Austin, and me), so I decided to put them together for my puppy.

And yes, I know the squares don't match each other, but Paisley doesn't care. It helps that she's colorblind, but still. (;

048/365 - Circle of Friends

by Priscilla Hewitt

I modified this one to make it 12" on each side. Added after Round 8:

Round A: Repeat Round 6.

Round B: 3 dc in each ch 3 space, 5 trc in corner ch-3 spaces.

Round C: Repeat Round 8.

Round D: sc in each sc, ch 1 behind each trc (ch 2 behind corner trc).

Round E: sc in each ch & sc around. (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in each corner space. Finish off.

It's not quite flat, but I figure that will work itself out once it's joined to the rest of the squares.

047/365 - Multi-Color Flower Blanket Square

by Fiona Kelly

This pattern was written up in UK terms and intended to be worked up as a smallish square. I decided I wanted it to be 12", so I worked it as if the UK terms were American. I then added a round of trebles, a round of half-doubles, and another round of trebles to make it 12" across. I think it turned out beautifully.
