024/365 - 25 Circles & Then Some

Remember the 16-Circles Square I did the other day? Well, I decided to make it bigger.

The biggest helpful hint I can give you if you choose to try this one is, mark your chain stitches!

This pattern eats chains if you're not watching. Trust me. Also, the pattern is written a little oddly in places. If I work this one again (which I may), I'll take step-by-step photos to help.

022/365 - 16-Circles Square

by Beatriz Medina

I did this square as the 6" square for January 2012 in the Block-A-Month Crochet-Along on Ravelry. (It was shared early for those who wanted to get a jump.) If you want to expand this one (add more rounds of circles), I figured out the math for it. Where A is the number of the round of circles on which you are working:

I really like how this one worked up. I could definitely see doing it again in any mix of colors. It could even look nice in one color.

019/365 - Peace Sign Granny Square

by JudyK

I added a round of sc in black to the outside. Also, instead of doing 3 sc in the corners of the final pattern round, I did sc ch sc.

It took a few rounds for me to get used to carrying the second color, but I did eventually get it. The chart she posted on the pattern site for round 2 was a life saver! I don't know that I would have gotten it right otherwise.

015/365 - Square 42 of 99

by Anne Halliday

Laying it all out there ... I decided to do this one, because I thought, "Hey, this small rectangle should be really easy to crank out quickly, so I can move on." Guess what? Not the case. This little bugger took a bit more time than anticipated. However, it was totally worth it. I love the texture the clusters give it. I would definitely do this one again.

Oh, and for those who noticed, I changed colors for Cassidy's squares, because after showing her Square 009/365 (which she doesn't know was for her), she told me, "It looks like an Easter basket." So, I chose more vibrant colors, though they're still a pink, a purple, and a green. I also added black for joining to give them a stained glass affect. Today, when she saw me photographing these, she said, "They still look kind of Easter-ish, and they're really girly." Can I not win? Argh ...

At this point, I think I'm just going to go random with her squares, because I am NOT going to buy even more yarn for her.

After looking over the color choices made by others on Ravelry, I opted to do this one in a single color. I think it turned out quite well this way, though I'm not opposed to doing another with multiple colors. This one was a bit tricky at times, but not so much that I had to go back and redo anything (which is good!). It also doesn't want to lay flat, which bothers me a bit ... especially since the one in the photo on the pattern book does.

by Amelia Beebe

I think I like this one even more with color changes! I have to say, this one ended up being a bit smaller than the first one. Same hook, same pattern, same tension ... so for those who want to know, I Love This Yarn! by Hobby Lobby apparently works up a bit smaller than do Herrshner's or Red Heart's yarns.

008/365 - Highland Rose

by Karen Ferguson

Can I just say that I love this square? I love this square!

I started this with a white flower over a red background, but then I realized I'd miscounted somewhere and had one too few petals on my flower. )= So, I frogged back to the yellow center (which had exactly the right number of stitches) and did a red flower ... mostly due to the fact that I already had the red piled on my desk from frogging it to get back to the messed up white flower. I absolutely love how it turned out. This is another I would definitely do again.

This is a lovely square by Donna Mason-Svara. I decided to make it for my elder daughter's pillowghan. Her preference was for deeper colors, which gave this square a very rich look, in my opinion. Because it's so dark, I opted for a lighter background against which to photograph it.

004/365 Hot Pepper

This little beauty was started in good faith on Wednesday, but due to circumstances beyond my control was not completed until yesterday. Don't worry ... I'm going to do 2 squares today to catch up. (; This one is out of 50 Fabulous Crochet Squares by Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss. It worked up quite quickly and easily.

The photo, unfortunately, makes the square look darker than it is. I promise to get photos in better lighting before too long.

003/365 Snowfall

I'm a little late on posting ... Didn't have access to the computer. )= So, without further ado, here's my square from Tuesday:

It's a lovely 12" square by Aurora Suominen. I'm actually thinking of frogging it and doing it over again. I don't like that the variegated yarn hides the texturing that's designed into the square. I'd like that to shine through. A solid color will work much better for that ... perhaps the red? (Actually, I'm switching reds, too. This one looks too orange once it's worked up.)
